I only swear by 2 things in homeschool - that's RightStart Math and Nikolai @raisingreaders for learning to teach reading. It's deeper than reading with her. It's about connecting with the kids and using literacy as a tool of liberation G knew how to read well but I didn't understand how to explain the rules of reading. This has changed that for us. And she helps those who have struggled the most and slipped through the cracks in public school for years. Her literacy instruction is revolutionary in so many ways for the whole family.
Reading is so different for me now. Even if I don't know a word I know that I can really sound it out because I know the sounds and if I can't read all of the words, I know how to correct myself and get it for next time. Before I was just guessing or trying to remember the words and feeling bad every day. I had given up trying. Every day I was frustrated at school and I didn't want to work with my parents because they couldn't help me. They would just tell me to sound words out or overcorrect me but I didn't know the sounds or the letters. Now we all know what we are doing and if we don't we know how to get through it. I'm super grateful to Ms. Nikolai and recommend her 100% yes. I'm not going to say my name right now but when I am 100% reading really good I promise I'll do a video testimonial! I'm almost there!
